Caporal à l’Escadrille N. 124
Engagé pour la durée de la guerre, a été blessé une premiere fois le 9 Mai, 1915, au cours d’une charge à la baïonnette. Passé dans l’Aviation, s’est montré pilote adroit et courageux. Le 18 Mai, 1916, a attaqué et descendu un avion allemand. Le 24 Mai n’a pas hesite à livrer à plusieurs appareils ennemis un combat au cours duquel il a été atteint d’une grave blessure à la face.
La présente nomination comporte l’attribution de la Croix de Guerre avec palme.

Rockwell, Kiffin Yates, Pilote à l’Escadrille 124.
Engage pour la durée de la guerre. Entré dans l’aviation de chasse, s’y est classé immédiatement comme pilote detout premier ordre, d’une audace et d’une bravoure admirable. N’hesite jamais à attaquer l’ennemi quelque soit le nombre des adversaires qu’il rencontre, l’obligeant le plus souvent par sa maîtrise, son mordant, à abandonner la lutte. A abbatu deux avions ennemis. A rendu les plus grands services à l’aviation de chasse de l’armée en se dépensant pendant quatre mois sans compter devant Verdun.

Although Kiffin Rockwell had already been decorated with the Médaille Militaire, four months before his death, this honor was again bestowed upon him posthumously by the Foreign Legion, with this citation:

The Médaille Militaire is conferred upon Corporal-Pilot Kiffin Yates Rockwell, volunteer for the duration of the war. Wounded first during a bayonet charge, May 9, 1915. Transferred to the aviation service, he has there shown himself a skilful and courageous pilot. May 18, 1916, he attacked and brought down a German aëroplane. May 24th, he did not hesitate to deliver attacks on several enemy machines, during the course of which combat he was painfully wounded in the face.
The present nomination carries with it the Croix de Guerre with Palm.

Kiffin Yates Rockwell, Sergent-pilot with Escadrille N. 124; enlisted for the duration of the war. Having entered the aviation de chasse, he revealed himself immediately to be a pilot of the very first order, of admirable daring and bravery. He never hesitates to attack the enemy, no matter what may be the number of adversaries he encounters, usually obliging the enemy, by the skill and sharpness of his attack, to abandon the struggle. Has destroyed two enemy machines. Has rendered the most valuable services to the aviation de chasse of the army by unsparing efforts during four months at Verdun.

The Cross of Chevalier of the National Order of the Legion of Honor has been attributed to the memory of Sous-lieutenant-pilot Kiffin Yates Rockwell, of the Second Aviation Group: He Died for France.
An American pilot who ceaselessly won the admiration of his chiefs and his comrades by his sangfroid, his courage and his daring. Mortally wounded during an aërial combat, September 23, 1916. Already decorated with the Médaille Militaire for feats of war. Has been cited.
